How to Play the Nuts Hand

December 10th, 2011

Occasionally every single player gets lucky and flops the nuts – the best possible hand on the board that is unlikely to be beaten when the rest of the cards come out. Obviously this is a great thing to happen, as you are guaranteed to win the pot, but there are also a number of different decisions that you will need to make in order to get the most money possible from your hand, therefore ensuring that you have not wasted a golden opportunity.

When you flop the nuts, there are three scenarios that you could run into. The first of these – and by far the best for you – is that the opponent has also flopped a strong poker hand. There is also the chance that the opponent has got a mediocre hand, and also the possibility that they have absolutely nothing. It is up to you to work out what the other player has and to therefore bet accordingly.

Probably the most popular tactic when flopping the nuts is to slow play a hand, which basically means that you either check or bet very small, in the hope that your opponent will either bet back into you, or hit a better hand (although not better than yours) which will encourage them to call any bets you make later on. This works well when playing against strong hands, as they will perceive you to be weak and bet into you. If slow playing still doesn’t improve a weak player’s hand though, you will have to resign yourself to the fact that you won’t make much money from this pot.

Should you flop the nuts on the flop, it is very important to evaluate the possible outcomes should two more cards come down. For example, you might be holding a seven and an eight, with four, five and six on the flop. Make sure you look to see if there is a chance for a flush there though, and also be concerned about more cards coming down to make a higher straight possible. Generally straights are not as safe to play with from the flop as good flushes – although unless you have the ace in a flush, you still can’t be sure that you are winning! If you flop a full house though, then you have almost nothing to worry about!

The best way to learn how to play the nuts is to sign up to www.pokerstars.co.uk and play a few hands to get a feel for the game. You will flop the nuts at some point and you will get to see exactly how it feels to be put in this exciting position!

Benefits of using a Poker Clock

August 16th, 2011

Online and live poker has exploded with interest over the last few years, there’s more and more people setting up home games to play their friends. The poker clock is used by many live based poker tournaments like small poker leagues and charity events, you can use the poker clock in any land based poker game Texas hold’em, Omaha etc.

You may have noticed that in large televised poker events that the tournament and blind schedule works perfectly. When arranging a home game it’s important to try and reproduce the same perfection, it is very important to have the blinds and tournament structure set up correctly so that players can concentrate solely on playing poker.

The poker clock has all of the features you will need to have your tournament structure set up correctly including blind intervals, blind sizes, large easy to read display and multiple device sync. The device sync is so that you can use the poker clock on an iphone, smartphone, laptop that all run on the same settings, this way you could have a separate blind timer on each table.

The most important feature of the poker blind timer is that it is free to use, to anyone with an internet connection. This means there’s no app’s or software to download and most smartphones now come with an internet connection so you can take the poker clock with you anywhere you go.

Pokerstars is a great place to play online poker, but for even more great options you can check out WSOP.com for a quality site to play poker, strategies and more.

Deuce to seven triple draw poker is played with the aces high, though it kicks off with the usual lowball five card deal. It's soft of a complicated game, and the full rules can be found on PlaySolidPoker.com, but I'll try and summarzie the game here. Don't get too excited about hands that would rock in other poker games, since this is a low ball game. The best possible PokerStars.net combination to look out for would be a 2, 3....5, 7 and so on. Betting happens immediately after the five cards are placed. Afterwards, players are faced with an option of drawing better or remaining on the hand they are currently playing. The lowest hand played in the showdown stage is considered the winner. You can only find this game on a few sites, including Poker Stars and the former Full Tilt Poker.
